PLANAR and CONCORD Radiators Selected for New Business Development

Leading radiator manufacturer Stelrad Radiators has supplied 108 of its sleek flat fronted Planar radiators and 19 of its Concord style radiators in an attractive grey colour for an exciting new business space development in a refurbishment workspace project at Newark Works on Bath Quays South Development, in the picturesque city of Bath.

It’s a joint venture project between Bath Council and developers TCN. It’s a difficult site with dilapidated buildings, sensitive planning and conservation issues and a history of false starts. In short, the development is one hell of a challenge, but the finished item is a thing of beauty and a new home for businesses that will only add to Bath’s excellent reputation for creative business properties.

Bath Quays is a flagship regeneration project that creates a new and vibrant commercial quarter in the heart of Bath Enterprise zone – the city’s dramatic new riverside district for business, recreation, and culture. Newark Works is just a five-minute walk from the city centre, the mainline train station and the city’s outstanding retail, food and leisure offerings.

Originally built in Victorian times quite literally as an engineering room, its rebirth courtesy of TCN sees it as an engine room for business, with a range of memories back to its original use whilst incorporating all the mod cons required for modern business to flourish. It’s a beautifully refurbished Grade II listed building, that offers 40,000 sq ft of workspace for single entrepreneurs, burgeoning creative businesses and well-established companies looking for an exciting new home.

Newark Works is the only remaining 19th century works of the highly significant engineering firm Stothert & Pitt, renowned for its development of dockside and offshore cranes. Its diverse output included producing the gun mountings for Challenger tanks, the doors and cantilever bridges on landing craft and the manned torpedoes of World War Two, known as Chariots.

We’re delighted our radiators were specified for this important new development in Bath. The creative treatment given to the building demanded outstanding finishing touches and the radiators chosen provides a modern and aesthetically attractive addition to the building proving that a heating system can be both attractive and functional, offering the warmth and comfort that business premises require. It’s a stunning building that illustrates a huge amount of creativity from the treatment of the walls in the building, to the wonderful entrance lobby with leisure facilities and a modern café area, to the work areas themselves – it’s a privilege to see our products part of the refurbishment.
